Dr. Mesay Hailu Dangisso is an Ethiopian Public Health leader and epidemiologist who has been the Director General of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), serving as Executive Committee Member of the Ethiopian Ministry of Health. Dr. Mesay is a board member of Ethiopian Science Academy and Ethiopian Anti-doping Authority.
He has worked as member of board of diretors and board chair of vairous academic and Public Insitutions in Ethopia. Prior to joining ETPHI, he worked as Vice President of Hawassa University. He also served as a Chief Administrative and Business Development Director and Associate Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Hawassa University.
Dr. Mesay Hailu worked as Head of the Sidama Administration Health Department and played a significant role in improving access to and substantial expansion of primary healthcare services in the administration. He also served as the head of district health offices and led and coordinated different disease prevention and control departments and complex public health emergencies in the region.
Dr. Mesay Hailu worked as a member of the Advisory and Technical Council for Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and recognized for the outstanding service by Africa CDC.
He recevied a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Hawassa University, Master’s of Public Health from Jimma University, and a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Bergen, Norway.
He does research on infectious diseases epidemiology, health systems, reproductive health and spatial epidemiology and has been leading various research, public health emergency, laboratory, health data management and analytics and development projects at EPHI. He has supervised more than 25 master students in Public Health an d5 PhD students.
