Successful Grant Writing Workshop hosted by EpiGen Consortium Members
A workshop on advanced research grant writing was held for researchers from ten governmental universities in the Southern Ethiopian regional states. It was organized in collaboration between Hawassa University and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute which took place in Hawassa from July 15–18, 2024. The opening remarks were given by Professor Mabratu, Vice President of Hawassa University, who emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts for securing competitive global research grants.
The workshop participants introduced themselves and shared their expectations from the workshop. The purpose of the workshop was presented by Dr. Dawit Wolday and a pretest was administered to assess participants' knowledge of research grant writing concepts. The final post-test was conducted at the end of the workshop. The workshop expenses were covered by the EpiGen Ethiopia project.
The aim of grant writing workshop was to improve the researchers' knowledge, abilities, and components of grant writing that need to be taken into account. Daily course evaluations were carried out to identify any challenges, and feedback was provided each morning before the start of the training sessions and about 30 participants attend the workshop of which 2 of them female researches.
Finally, the workshop was officially closed by EPHI research wing deputy director general Dr. Getachew Toller and Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer of Hawassa University, Dr. Tafese Matiwos.
