Mr. Neamin Tesfaye is a field epidemiologist who graduated from Addis Ababa University in 2019. He has extensive experience in public health emergency management (PHEM), spanning both infectious and non-infectious health events, including mortality surveillance related to maternal and perinatal deaths. He has worked at the national level on outbreak investigation and response, enhancing early detection and preparedness measures for diseases declared as both “public health emergencies of international concern” and those identified as concerns at the national scale.

Furthermore, he has experience in establishing and evaluating both new and existing surveillance systems. Notably, he has a stellar record in collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and disseminating findings from surveillance data to wider audiences. He is passionate about working with surveillance data and supporting public health interventions by combining skills from epidemiology with tools from bioinformatics to create a comprehensive picture of pressing public health issues, such as cholera.

To this end, he aims to contribute to the realization of the Cholera Elimination Plan targeted for 2028. After completing his PhD, he intends to continue enhancing the capacity of public health emergency management systems (PHEM), which are widely known as the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) system in other WHO AFRO member states. His goal is to strengthen these systems to meet contemporary public health demands.
