Yerega Belete Alemneh graduated with a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology at the University of Gondar and an M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology at Addis Ababa University. He has more than 15 years of work experience in two academic institutions, Jigjiga University and Saint Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, as an assistant lecturer of Medical laboratory technology, lecturer, and assistant professor in Medical microbiology. In these institutions, he has performed teaching, research, community service, and leadership.
Yerega has studied infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and other bacterial pathogens and has published in peer-reviewed journals. He has deep knowledge and skills in phenotypic characterization of pathogenic microorganisms, microbial DNA/RNA extraction, amplification and detection. Recently, he also developed skills in pathogen sequencing. In the future, he is interested in conducting research in the area of pathogen genomics by using high-throughput molecular technologies.
