PhD Programme: Medical Biotechnology
Enrolled University: Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU)
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Gondar and a Master of Science degree in Medical Biochemistry from Addis Ababa University. I have over seven years of experience in university teaching and research roles. I also have more than five years of experience as a forensic toxicology expert, department head, and laboratory establisher at the Ethiopian Federal Police Forensic Institute. Throughout my career, I have actively contributed to teaching, research, community service, and leadership. Additionally, I have played a key role in establishing and managing biochemical laboratories within these institutions. During the coronavirus pandemic, I played a role in fighting it through the production of hand sanitizer based on WHO guidelines.
I have developed a profound knowledge of infectious diseases during my PhD study. I am proficient in molecular biology, phenotypic and genotypic characterization of pathogenic microorganisms, extraction of DNA/RNA, amplification, and detection. I have a passion and keen interest in conducting research in the area of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis pathogen genomics by using high-throughput molecular technologies and identifying the lineages/sublineages of the pathogen circulating in Ethiopia. I am a dedicated, cooperative, respectful, and compassionate person. I have excellent interpersonal skills and am a team player. Moreover, I am eager to use my multidisciplinary knowledge (chemistry, biochemistry, and biotechnology) and experience for a new challenge, where I can continue to drive success and make a meaningful impact.
