Rajiha Abubeker Ibrahim is a PhD candidate at Addis Ababa University and the NIH Fogarty One Health East Africa Research Training OHEART PhD fellow. She was a visiting scholar at Ohio State University in 2019. She achieved Certificate of Distinction at Ohio State University for her outstanding research and presentation.

Rajiha Abubeker is a researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and previously served as a director of Bacterial, Parasitic and Zoonotic Research Directorate. She led Clinical Bacteriology and Mycology case team in the directorate. Rajiha established and led the laboratory-based Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance in Ethiopia. She has taken different trainings and courses in molecular techniques locally and internationally on next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. These include Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, and Bioinformatics and Genomics in United States of America and Training in SARS-CoV-2 Whole Genome Sequencing and Data Analytics in South Africa.

She had been active during the pandemic of COVID 19 outbreak response at EPHI. Currently, she is working on sequencing of SARS CoV-2 in the core genomic laboratory and is also involved in the analysis of the genomic data. She is working on the development of a pathogen genomic surveillance strategic document in Ethiopia. She is also, working in antimicrobial resistance and genomic characterization of microorganisms.
